Phil's Thoughts: I seriously don't know what to think. This is all new, zipperless and they applied like a thin layer of rubber to a lot of the outside of the suit. I do know it will stop evaoprative cooling and it will mean the suit absorbs a lot less water. Now when they say it has all the features of the FlashBomb, they're not kidding - Aquaban sealed outer seams and taped inner seams - insane!
The Thermo Shield is what Rip Curl calls it. It feels rubbery like it's made of the same stuff as their Aquaban Sealed seams. If feels like it's really thinly applied, but applied well - I couldn't feel an 'edge' from the application. Thermo Shield doesn't stretch as much as the neoprene does - not ever close, but that's OK, because it isn't on places where you need stretch - it's on places where you need only warmth.
Since it's all new, it don't know how well it live up to the claim of "(Rip Curl's) warmest wetsuit ever", but it's impressive and made me wish Rip Curl wetsuits fit me better.
From Rip Curl: NEW FOR WINTER 2018 - A revolution in wetsuits has arrived - developed with our most popular wetsuit innovations, the all new Flashbomb Heat Seeker 4/3 is our warmest wetsuit ever with all of the technical features found in a Flashbomb wetsuit, plus more.
Designed with Flex Energy, a revolutionary neoprene that generates heat when stretched as you move through the water. Flex Energy lining will activate and heat your wetsuit to keep you warm in the coldest water temps. The Heat Seeker also features Liquid Mesh that offers superior stretch panels that absorb solar heat and reduce wind chill in the areas you need it the most. In addition, Thermo Shield technology has been added to the arm panels for increased durability to smoothy neoprene, and to further reduce wind chill on forearms. Surfing in cold water just got better with the warmest Flashbomb ever!
