The brand

Why Freestyle Shark?

Freestyle launched the Shark Watch in 1981 and created the surf watch category. It's the watch you wear from the lineup to the parking lot and everywhere in between — simple, tough, and built to get wet.

🌊

Born on the beach in 1981

The original Shark Watch launched the surf watch category. Forty-plus years later, the design DNA is still instantly recognizable in every new colorway and release.

💧

Serious water resistance

Most Shark models are rated to 100m (10 ATM) — Clip models reach 300 feet. Built to handle surf sessions, paddling, diving, and pool days without a second thought.

🔒

The Shark Clip system

The iconic clip band locks to your wrist so it stays put during wipeouts and heavy conditions. No sliding, no slipping — it's why surfers chose it from the start.

🛡️

Lifetime warranty

Freestyle backs every Shark Watch with a lifetime warranty. Buy one, wear it for years — if something goes wrong with materials or workmanship, they take care of it.

Strap guide

Clip, Leash, or Buckle?

The strap style is the most important decision when choosing a Shark Watch. Each closure system has a different feel and purpose — here's how they compare.

Leash Velcro — inspired by the original '81

Velcro closure with a wider band — the same design DNA as the very first Shark Watch in 1981. Wraps fully around your wrist, velcros shut, and gives you a precise, fully adjustable fit.

Best for: People who prefer a wider, softer band. Great for wrists between standard sizes — the velcro lets you dial in the exact fit.

Buckle Traditional pin-and-buckle

A classic stainless pin-and-buckle closure on a nylon band. Looks closer to a traditional watch, but the Freestyle DNA is all there — same digital display, same water resistance, same feature set.

Best for: Everyday wear beyond the beach, school, work, or anyone who wants a cleaner look without giving up Shark performance.

Shark Classic Clip

The one that started it all

The Shark Classic Clip is the most popular watch we carry — and for good reason. The clip band system was engineered specifically for surfing: it locks to your wrist so it doesn't slide during a session, and comes off in one motion when you're done.

Rated to 300 feet of water resistance with hydro push buttons that work reliably in and out of the water. The Night Vision backlight means you can read it in any light — on the water at dawn or in a dark lineup.

Best for: Surfing, swimming, beach days, and daily wear. This is the definitive surf watch — what most people picture when they think Freestyle Shark.
Case size

Classic or Mini?

The Shark comes in two case sizes — Classic (38mm) and Mini. The features are completely identical. The difference is purely in how the watch sits on your wrist.

38mm Shark Classic

The original and most popular size. Sits comfortably on a wide range of wrists — proportioned well on most men's and larger women's wrists. Bold enough to read at a glance without being oversized.

  • Case width38mm

Mini Shark Mini

Same Shark Watch in a smaller case — designed for smaller wrists but with identical features and the same water resistance. Popular with women, kids, and anyone who prefers a lower-profile look.

Shark Mini Clip

Smaller wrist, same attitude

The Shark Mini was designed for smaller wrists but doesn't compromise on a single feature. You get 300ft water resistance, Night Vision backlight, dual time, stopwatch, countdown timer, and alarm — in a case that actually fits.

It's a popular choice for women who want the real surf watch experience, and for kids who are ready to use a Clip closure. The same lifetime warranty applies as every other Shark model.

Best for: Women, kids, and anyone with a smaller wrist who wants the full Shark Watch experience without the oversized look.

Freestyle Shark Classic Leash watch — velcro strap surf watch since 1981 at Parrot Surf & Skate
Shark Classic Leash

The original strap — back since '81

The Leash is the strap from the original 1981 Shark Watch. A wide velcro band that wraps fully around your wrist — fully adjustable, comfortable for all-day wear, and easy to get an exact fit even if your wrist falls between standard band sizes.

The velcro is marine-grade and holds firmly through water exposure. It has a softer, wider feel on the wrist compared to the Clip — some surfers prefer it, especially for longer sessions in the water.

Best for: People who prefer a wider band, adjustable velcro closure, and a slightly more relaxed fit. The classic surf look, unchanged since the beginning.
Before you buy

How to choose the right Shark Watch

Five things to think through before you pick yours.

01

Start with strap style

The Clip is the most popular for a reason — fast on and off, stays put through wipeouts, and gives you the truest Shark Watch experience. Choose Leash if you want a wider velcro band with full adjustability. Choose Buckle if you want a cleaner, more versatile everyday look.

02

Pick case size based on wrist fit

The Classic (38mm) fits most adults well. If you have a smaller wrist — or you're buying for a kid — go Mini. The features are 100% identical. It's purely about proportion on your wrist. Try both in store at Parrot if you're on the fence.

03

Clip models offer the highest water resistance

Classic Clip and Mini Clip are rated to 300ft (100m) — the highest in the Shark lineup. If you're surfing, paddling, or diving regularly, these are the ones to go for. Leash and Buckle models are still rated to 100m — more than enough for swimming and beach use.

04

Pick a colorway you'll actually wear every day

Freestyle drops new colorways seasonally — the function is the same across all of them. Come in and try them on your wrist at Parrot. Colors look different in person than on a screen, and it's the best way to find one you'll actually reach for every morning.

05

Register your watch to activate the lifetime warranty

After you buy, register at freestyleusa.com. It takes two minutes and activates the lifetime warranty — which covers manufacturer defects for the life of the watch. Worth doing right away before you forget.

Common questions

FAQ

What's the difference between Shark Classic Clip and Shark Mini Clip?
The only difference is case size. The Classic is 38mm wide — proportioned for medium to large wrists. The Mini is smaller, designed for smaller wrists, women, and kids. Both have completely identical features: 300ft water resistance, Night Vision backlight, dual time, stopwatch, countdown timer, alarm, and hydro push buttons. Pick based on what fits your wrist best.
Can I wear a Freestyle Shark Watch surfing?
Yes — that's what it was designed for since 1981. Clip models are rated to 300 feet (100m) and the Shark Clip closure stays locked on your wrist through wipeouts. Leash and Buckle models are rated to 100m — still more than enough for surfing and paddling. The hydro push buttons work reliably underwater, so you can use all the features during your session.
What does the Clip feel like compared to Leash or Buckle?
The Clip has a two-piece nylon band with a clip fastener — snaps shut in one motion, stays tight and flat on the wrist, and comes off just as fast. The Leash is a wide velcro band with more coverage — softer feel, fully adjustable, a bit more relaxed. The Buckle is a traditional pin-and-buckle — familiar, clean, and easy to resize. All three are comfortable for all-day wear.
Is the Freestyle Shark Watch good for kids?
Yes — it's a popular choice for kids. The Shark Mini is sized for smaller wrists and handles everything — pool, beach, skate park. The Leash (velcro) is the easiest for younger kids to manage on their own. Once they get the hang of the Clip it's easy too. The lifetime warranty means you won't need to replace it if something goes wrong under normal use.
How do I use all the features on a Shark Watch?
The Shark uses two side buttons to navigate between modes — time, date, alarm, stopwatch, countdown timer, and dual time. Freestyle has free instruction manuals and how-to videos for every model at freestyleusa.com. If you buy in store at Parrot in Mount Pleasant, we're happy to walk you through the basics before you head out.
