The Firewire Great White surfboard in the new Volcanic technology. Great new board from Slater and master shaper Mike Woo in the Ibolic construction the added benefits Volcanic tech. Inspired by the outline of a Great White shark apparently...a different kind of 'Fish' design for sure!
The Volcanic tech combined with the now familiar Ibolic set-up is a brilliant step forward in terms of performance but also has a reduced environmental impact compared to traditional surfboard builds.
Volcanic Tech is made from Basalt Fibres extruded from Volcanic rocks. The rocks are crushed, melted and extruded into woven fibres that make up the cloth. The molten rock is then extruded through small nozzles to produce continuous filaments of basalt fibre. The filaments are then cut into long stem fibres and woven into lamination cloth fibre. The cloth has similar characteristics to carbon as it relates to strength and weight however because the fibres are derived from Organic Raw materials, when combined with Bio Resins it serves as a better degradable ECO alternative than using traditional carbon fibre cloth.
The Great White is a performance twin with excellent paddle speed, genuine twinny speed when up and riding and precision turns. You can of course ride it with a small trailer fin to tame the speed a little especially when on a rail. The pivoty feel to it makes pocket surfing a synch but the thing that really stands out is the speed through and out of your turns, it's stunning.
The GWT surfboard looks to be a great Hybrid style board that will generate speed with ease but it won't grovel in the weaker mush, it needs a wave with a pocket to work with. It will handle size and power, the snappy turning ability and insane speed will get you out of trouble (most of the time!) If you like the feel of a twin, like speed, fast turns and a responsive ride the GWT is for you, aim to ride it around 2 inches shorter than your everyday board.
The team here have surfed pretty much every board in the Firewire range at some time or another and we speak to surfers from all over the world and get their feedback on how the boards perform in all sorts of conditions so we're well-placed to talk about all aspects of Firewire surfboards.
We're happy to consider trading in your old board against a new Firewire, so If you have any questions about this we'd be delighted to answer them and advise on any potential board choices or enquiries you might have, just drop us an email to firstname.lastname@example.org or call us on 0044 (0) 1243 674250.
